canadian paolo rocco kickstarts the new year with his ​,,,judgement ep on hot creations. the first release of 2017 is an international affair, with manchester born trevino and one of the most spoken names of last year, greece native detlef on remix duties. initially making a name for himself through his djing skills back home in montreal, paolo s productions entered the market in 2012 with instant international support. his releases on real tone, one records, saved and others were all met with high acclaims as were the compilations he mixed for defected and get physical. the creation of, ‘judgement’ and ‘that’s it’ prove paolo truly understands what works on the dance floor. 2016 saw detlef reach new heights whilst also debuting on hot creations with his ‘kinky tail’ ep. he returns to the label with a devastating edit of ‘judgement’ and his rolling signature sound. trevino aka marcus intalex ​,,,ramps up the ep with his remix, centred around shimmering high hats and a freaky groove. a champion of how a dj can achieve success in two different genres, trevino has released on several of the most praised drum & bass and techno labels for a number of years.

power station continue to present their penchant for dark dance club sounds as the third edition of the kris baha-led imprint looks to another melbourne local by way of lochlan denholm aka disrute. after surfacing on the labels sampler debut just last year, reflexivity sees lochlan a chance to explore his style of twisted, pulsing homage to new wave and motorik throb. anvil landing wastes no time laying down intentions. sparse friendly drums are met with a modulating bass line and lazy arpeggio, an incessant sonar pulses and drum rolls intensify. snorkel continues the mid-tempo intensity, distressed kick counterpoint with aggressive stabs that rise and swirl before reaching a powerful climax, a track reminiscent of the 2000 s turbo-charged italo disco edits. on the flip we see japanese supergroup mascaras, made up of chida and 5ive (cos/mes) tackle unreleased kabutops. vocal fans of disrute s kabu track from the label sampler, here mascaras provide a fast paced acid-heavy reinterpretation, intense yet restrained with erratic drum trickery taking disrute to techno territory. finally, disrute reflects with title track reflexivity. digital arpeggios and a brooding one note bass work around curt cress style harmonic drums, a low slung piece for the early evening. hand drawn picture sleeve and label, a complete package that signals exciting times for power station ahead.

vor nun mehr sieben jahren gaben sie uns das feuer der gaben, dann wurde es still. aber sie sind nicht komplett zu asche verbrannt. ein bisschen glut leuchtete still und heimlich im dunkel der vergangenheit vor sich hin, bis sich tobias siebert und seine band klez.e vor etwa einem jahr dazu entschlossen, das alte, ewige feuer neu zu entfachen. entstanden ist gleich ein ganzes album, das seine reise im jahr 1989 beginnt und seine hörer im hier und jetzt wieder ausspuckt. ein album, das seinen ausgangspunkt in eben jenem jahr nimmt, in dem nicht nur die mauer fiel und das sogenannte ende der geschichte ausgerufen wurde, sondern auch disintegration von the cure erschien. siebert, selbst im osten der republik groß geworden, und schon immer von westlicher new-wave und postpunk-beeinflusster popmusik begeistert, blickt in der echokammer der gegenwart zurück in die zeit der großen versprechen, die schon damals unerfüllt im hallraum der toms und den monotonen basslinen im disconebelnirvana verschwanden. versprechen auch einer befreiung, die in einem ideologiekritischen sinne vielleicht immer schon hohl waren, heute jedoch ferner scheinen denn je. folgerichtig nennen klez.e ihr viertes album desintegration, auflösung, zerfall. womöglich kein zufall.
